Mining

The extraction and procesing of minerals takes place every day on every continent. Every day mining companies need reliable pumps for a wide range of diverse and challenging applications including slurry transport, dewatering, chemical dosing and neutralization.

In the rough surrounding of mines and processing plants and with the variety of aggressive and abrasive media that need to be pumped not only the performance but also the ruggedness and the ease of maintenance are essential pump properties.

Differences in the natural occurance of different minerals lead to differing etraction methods and even if mines therefore differ on first sight, during the processing of the minerals many similarities occur and the following applications which require the support of pumps are nearly always found:

  • Slurry transfer
  • Thickener
  • Dewatering
  • Back-filling
  • Gland seal water
  • Yellow cake
  • Chemical reagent
  • Neutralization
  • Flotation

Successful application examples

Slurry is a mixture of pulverized rock and water. The reason for making slurry is that it is more economic to transfer slurry over longer distances rather than convey solid rock. You can use centrifugal pumps, progressing cavity pumps, rotary lobe pumps, peristaltic pumps to convey the slurry.

Other technologies:

hose pumps

Flocculants are made up and transferred in high volumes to holding tanks and therefrom dosed into the thickener to coalgulate the ore and cause the valuable product to sink to the bottom, while the clear water moves to the overflow, from where it is pumped away.
From here the valuable concentrated slurry is transferred by a pump.
