Secure transport of Solvents in the paint and coatings industy
Solvents are not a component of the produced coating layer, but they serve mianly to adjust the characteristics of the lacquer and the film formation.
Task
A variety of solvents like acetone, benzol, ethyl acetate, isopropanol, methyl ethyl ketone or n-butanol are used for the production of lacquer. In this application the tank farm with various solvents is outside of the production hall. It is the pumps task to bring the solvents safe and reliable to the production process.
Solution
Due to the self-priming capability of a side channel pump and the low NPSH value, the pump can be installed on the tank, in the dome shaft. The earth-covered, double-walled tanks offer significantly greater security. The pump is able to evacuate the suction line and pump gas components out of the suction line. If gas bubbles form in the lines, the flow does not stop. Due to the requirements of TA-Luft and explosion protection, pumps with magnetic couplings and ATEX approval were used.
