KOLMEKS 80 Years of Quality and Reliability – The 60-Year History of the Pump Factory

This anniversary is not only an opportunity to reflect on their successful history but also to look ahead with excitement, continuing their work in quality and innovation. Last year, Kolmeks celebrated Viljandi’s 30th anniversary and Kolmeks Chuzhou’s 20th. This year, they also mark another significant milestone as Kolmeks’ pump factory in Turenki turns 60!
Kolmeks Turenki Pump Factory’s 60-Year Journey
Kolmeks was founded in Helsinki in 1945, after which several Kolmeks offices and factory facilities were used in Helsinki and elsewhere in the capital region. As production grew and the facilities became cramped, a suitable plot was found in Turenki, Janakkala, for Kolmeks’ new factory. The plot was also appropriately sized with future factory expansions in mind.
This year marks 60 years since Kolmeks began constructing its new factory in Turenki.
During the 1970s and 1980s, the Turenki factory operated simultaneously with the old factory located in Masala, Kirkkonummi. Manufacturing technology started to evolve when machining automation began in the mid-1970s. At that time, Turenki increasingly invested in production technology and product development, including machine tools, winding equipment, and sheet metal machinery.
1976 all machining operations were transferred from Masala to Turenki, while assembly remained in Kirkkonummi. In the 1990s, the remaining operations were also moved from the capital region to Turenki, with only the Vantaa service center staying in Tikkurila. Today, one of Kolmeks’ two service centers still operates in Koivuhaka, Vantaa.
Due to continuous growth in production volumes, the Turenki factory has been expanded multiple times over the years. The accompanying image is from the late 1960s and early 1970s, a time when machining had not yet begun at the factory.
Today, this section of the factory is primarily used for various pump assembly operations.
